Trails (2020) - Fogo Island Residency Series
Utilizing technical elements like colour, space, and shape, the sense of a specific moment is implied as is a closeness of my relationship to a subject without being illustrative. A documentation of life experiences, which include both photographs and field journals, function as both inspiration and source material. I enjoy the opportunity to relive the experience, relish in the opportunity to focus on it, and through art-making, be able to more fully understand and contemplate my relationship to my world. Each painting in this series is based on a trail on Fogo Island, NL, that I hiked during a month long residency in the fall of 2019, and facilitated an intimacy with ‘place’ that may otherwise not have occurred.
