Window Jars (2019)
Inspired by memory and research into my family’s collection of photographs, Window Jars (2019) explores themes of nostalgia and childhood experiences in the 1970s. Brilliant under-paintings lay the foundation for earthy pigments layered on top that sometimes appear drained of colour. Through this technique I try to simulate the act of remembering, where parts of our memories appear in the mind to be more vibrant and other aspects can be muddy. For me, this creates a tension in the work, a psychological challenge, not unlike the feeling of grasping to remember a dream.
